At 6-foot-9, Anna Smrek is one of the most commanding volleyball players in Big Ten and Wisconsin Badger history.

She's the tallest player in Wisconsin history

At 6-9, she's the tallest player in UW history, just a nudge taller than five-time All-American and former teammate Dana Rettke.

Another anticipated roster move that was confirmed Friday night was that senior setter MJ Hammill posted on Instagram that she would not be a part of UW's program next season, and seemingly hinted that she won't use another year of eligibility at a different school.

And then, there is Wisconsin women's volleyball tall. It's 6-foot-9 Anna Smrek standing alongside 6-7 Carter Booth and 6-4 Sarah Franklin — or, depending on the situation, some combination of those players with 6-3 CC Crawford, 6-2 Devyn Robinson or 6-2 Temi Thomas-Ailara.

Batenhorst grew up in Texas, but was born in Omaha and had many connections to the state. Her parents are each from Nebraska, and her grandparents attended many Huskers matches to watch her play.

“We found her online and we were very impressed, especially seeing that there aren't so many people like me,” said Smrek, who measures 6-8½ in shoes.
