I get straight lines when recording my tracks. What should I do ?

General settings

When recording a track or following a hike, you may have difficulty getting a correct track.

For example :

  • no point appears on the map, the distance does not increase despite the fact that you have advanced well on the ground.
  • you have the impression that there are points missing on your path and/or you see large lines which do not follow the path.

There are several causes for this kind of problem (apart from a possible problem with the application, but we took a long time to test it, debug it and make it work correctly). The application uses your GPS position, most of the tracking problems are therefore due to difficulties in making the GPS fix (knowing your position).

So that the fix can be done correctly :

  • update the app
  • allow the app to use your location
  • deactivate energy saving mode
  • allow the application to run in the background
  • check that no optimizing phone application (antivirus, cleaner, etc.) is forcing power saving mode
  • do not use other applications at the same time. Smartphones are designed to turn off apps at any time to free up memory for a foreground app.
  • avoid storing your device at the bottom of the bag, keep it on your wrist or top of your backpack for example. GPS signals come from satellites and are very attenuated when they must pass through something other than air.
  • use the application outdoors and in open terrain. In the forest and near cliffs, you may have difficulty obtaining the fix.

If the manipulations proposed above do not work, it means that the GPS chip on your smartphone may be of poor quality or deteriorate. On some devices, over time, electrical contacts between the GPS chip and its antenna integrated into your smartphone get dirty and make the GPS fix difficult to obtain.
The only solution to obtain a correct layout then consists in waking up the application regularly, while waiting for an update from the manufacturer.

Android settings

  • activate notifications

  • activate the GPS location before launching the application

  • turn off "Wi-Fi Search" and "Bluetooth Search" in the advanced settings of your location data

Phone builders

Some manufacturers have recently tightened their policies on tasks running in the background for third-party applications, such as Visorando.
A recent update on their latest devices therefore forces these tasks to be stopped to save battery when the device is put to sleep. The track recording can therefore be affected, hence the appearance of straight lines.

Huawei

The following manipulation seems to work for some users :
Go to Settings > Battery > Application launch > Visorando > Enable Background Execution.

Samsung

If the choice to disable battery optimization is no longer available, please do the following :
1. Go to Settings> Applications> Visorando> Battery
2. Check that the Optimize battery menu indicates "Not Optimized", if this is not the case, click on this same box.
3. Click on Unoptimized apps (top) and choose "All" instead.
4. In the list, find Visorando and deactivate the button.
This manipulation will need to be redone from time to time as Samsung updates often reset the optimization settings of applications.

Settings > Device maintenance > Battery :

1. Energy saving mode: deactivate OR Energy consumption mode> High performance : activate
2. Background usage limits> Applications never in standby: add Visorando via the + OR Applications in standby (deep) : if Visorando appears in the list, click on the 3 vertical dots, then "Remove applications" and remove Visorando.

Xiaomi
The names of the following operations may vary slightly from one device to another.
1. In Settings > Applications > Visorando :
  • Auto start : Enabled
  • Other permissions (or authorizations): activate the last 3 options (or all if that is not enough)
  • Battery saver: Choose "No restrictions"

2. In the quick launch screen where the recently opened applications are displayed (it usually appears after a long press on the phone's Menu button, otherwise consult the device manual) :

  • Scroll through the apps until you find the screen corresponding to Visorando. Slide this screen down (or if that doesn't work, do a long press on it), this will lock the application to prevent the recording from being cut accidentally.
  • If the Visorando screen does not appear in the quick launch, please open Visorando before starting the lockstep again.
